Type Of Fishing

TYPE OF FISHING

The season generally determines the type of fishing. With ocean fishing there are two terms to know; bottom fishing and surface fishing. In the winter—surface fishing is almost non-existant. In the summer—most fishing is surface fishing, with the bottom fishing so-so or slow.

WINTER

Prime bottom fishing time. Deep water rock-cod, (reds, salmon grouper, and cow-cod); shallow water rockfish (whitefish, sculpin, and sheepshead). With live squid runs for whitesea bass and calico bass happen, but fish count is sometimes low.

SPRING

Squid produces a wide variety of fish, and with the water temperatures rising fish counts also rise. Sand bass come to spawn, calico bass, barracuda, bonito, whitesea bass and then yellowtail appear. Limits are taken often.

SUMMER/FALL

Surface action at its best. Calico bass, barracuda, bonito, yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, and bluefin tuna, and sometimes dorado (mahi-mahi). Overnight boats have produced good fish counts the last 5 years. The type of fishing determines the type of tackle, also costs. Seasons determine type of fishing, costs and where to fish. So, in order for me to assist I need certain information.
