Situated in the heart of Sonoma County's Alexander Valley, Trentadue Winery has been producing premium wines for more than two decades. But to simply state such facts doesn't convey the winery's unusual history. The rich, fresh character of Trentadue wines reflects a heritage of good taste virtualy unique to California.Descendants of Italian families that included several generations of winemakers, Leo and Evelyn Trentadue have always been close to the soil and their search for a new home led them to Sonoma County, where they purchased prime agricultural land in Alexander Valley and nearby Dry Creek Valley in 1959.
The new property included a sizeable old vineyard and they soon realized the land's potential for producing outstanding premium wine grapes. They planted new vineyards, and began selling to neighboring wineries. It wasn't until 1969, that Leo Trentadue converted a barn into a makeshift winery and crushed his first vintage.
Produced in limited quantities, those first wines from Trentadue winery were hits with consumers. In 1973, the Trentadue's built the winemaking facility/hospitality center that serves as the winery's home today.
Trentadue winery began major improvements in 1990. New stainless steel fermentors, new small oak barrels, and a new bottling line were installed, and the decision was made to limit production to those grape varieties that excel in the families vineyards.
As a result to the changes, the wines from Trentadue Winery are now better than ever. The winery continues to produce award winning red wines, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Old Patch Red, (all produced from old vines), Merlot, Sangiovese, Carignan, and Merlot Port, that have captured the attention of both consumers and wine critics.
